Cosmic Entanglement - "This is about overcoming fear and frustration and stepping into a world that feels fulfilling"
My space photography journey began with absolutely no knowledge of telescopes or even the words used to describe different space objects. I remember feeling a little overwhelmed by it all to be honest. My passion for it often led me to local astronomy events, but I secretly hoped nobody would discover that I was not only a noob, but that I had never really received much education about space. Still, I went.
Once I had looked through a telescope, the dream in me was alive to keep exploring. My business partner Ginny led me to the idea to not only observe, but to actually try to capture that observation with my camera. Many failed nights with nothing to show for them and much frustration later, I landed on something that at the time felt like an unimaginable success. That image is below:
This ugly image, with its elongated and poorly tracked stars.. with its blown out colors, and terrible noise... This image remains one of my favorites. This was about more than a photograph. This was about overcoming fear and frustration and stepping into a world that felt fulfilling. I still think about that first moment I saw it all the time.
So... I've come a little ways since then, but when I tell you the Whirlpool Galaxy still holds a very special place for me, know that it started a beautiful life journey. I do hope that my latest image of this same old friend brings you the same intense love for astronomy that it has me.
